The first industry-led strategy for Ireland’s inshore fisheries sector is launched

The first industry-led strategy for Ireland’s inshore fisheries sector has been launched in a bid to develop a prosperous and sustainable industry.  The Irish Inshore Fisheries Sector Strategy 2019-2023 follows 18 months of consultation and development with representatives from the sector.

Ireland’s inshore sector comprising fishing vessels of 12 metres or less is an important source of employment for rural coastal communities throughout Ireland. 90% of the registered fishing fleet in Ireland are inshore vessels. Almost half of all those employed in Ireland’s fishing sector are inshore fishers.
