Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency has worked with communities around the coast to assist in the development of CLAMS groups, an environmental initiative that assists aquaculture businesses to work in harmony with their environment and local community. Beach and pier clean ups are an integral part of their local work.

The Castlemaine Harbour CLAMS group consists of local businesses producing a variety of shellfish including bottom mussels, oysters and clams.

Maintaining a tidy and clean foreshore has always been a priority for aquaculture producers in Castlemaine Harbour. BIM organised a number of skips for the event, which was hailed a great success by the Community Council and the CLAMS group, alike.
