Online Fisheries Management Chart to provide real-time information on regulations

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland’s seafood development agency is leading a project in collaboration with the Marine Institute and the Sea Fisheries Protection Agency that will deliver an online version of the well known fisheries management chart.

A team from BIM’s Economics and Strategic Services’ business unit gave a preview demo of the online version of the chart to visitors at this year’s Skipper Expo. Up until now, the chart has been produced on an annual basis in paper form and this will continue to be the case. The printed chart and its online counterpart feature key regulations such as quota and technical conservation measures that are applicable to the fishing industry in Ireland.

Ben Dallaghan, BIM was one of several BIM staff who demonstrated the online application at the Skipper Expo and said:

“We demonstrated and discussed the online chart with more than 100 members of the Irish fishing sector. We’re taking on board the valuable input from fishermen and adapting the chart’s functionality based on some of the feedback we received during the demos. “

The Fisheries Management Chart Online (FMCO) application is due to be launched in May 2019.
