Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency has worked with communities around the coast to assist in the development of CLAMS groups, an environmental initiative that assists aquaculture businesses to work in harmony with their environment and local community. Beach and pier clean ups are an integral part of their local work.

Catherine Butler, BIM’s local aquaculture development officer assisted the oyster producers in organising the day. Speaking at the event she said, “Oysters have been successfully grown in Co Clare since the 1970’s. Maintaining a clean and tidy foreshore has been a priority for all the oyster producers along the North Shannon coastline. This commitment is highlighted by their annual bay cleans organised through the local CLAMS group and demonstrates the respect these local producers have for their working environment”.
