BIM Join Green Business and IBEC to Assist Companies to Cut Costs Through Smart Energy Efficiency

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency recently partnered with IBEC, EPA’s to run a series of free seminars to assist businesses to manage energy and explore smart and inexpensive methods of reducing energy costs.

The first of these seminars will be hosted by BIM in its purpose built Seafood Innovation Centre (SDC) in Clonakilty, Co. Cork on the 8th May. The half day seminar includes case studies from a range of companies who have put strategies in place to substantially cut their energy costs including The Carbery Group who have saved over €500,000 per annum through a combination of technical improvements, management commitment and safety awareness and training; the Musgrave Group who have saved over €1 million per annum in the last five years by introducing energy reduction methods in warehousing, distribution and retail and Shellfish de la Mer who, assisted by BIM, have have reduced their diesel usage by 10% in the last year.

Expert talks will also be delivered by the SEAi (Key Tips for Saving Energy Costs) and Ecofleet who will advise attendees on how to save money and operate a fuel efficient commercial vehicle fleet. BIM will introduce their new Green Seafood Business Programme which aims to deliver resource efficiency improvements and reduce the operating costs for seafood businesses. In addition to direct cost savings, eco-efficiency can also assist in increasing market advantage and differentiation.

Donal Buckley, BIM’s Business Development & Innovation Manager explains how the programme will offer a distinct advantage to seafood companies; ‘In addition to saving operational costs, this programme will assist seafood companies to manage their business in a sustainable manner which links in with Bord Bia’s Origin Green Programme. This level of commitment to sustainability in all aspects of their business is a key selling point on the market and we are looking forward to working closely with seafood companies around the coast on this exciting new initiative’

Seminars aimed at all companies will be held in Athlone Springs Hotel, Athlone on the 13th May and Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on the 14th May.
