BIM Announces Shortlist for 2014 Young Fishmonger of the Year Award

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) today (31 October 2013) announced the finalists for its 2014 Young Fishmonger of the Year Competition.

Commenting for BIM, Geraldine Lane, BIM Trade Development Manager said:

We would like to thank all of the entrants who entered this year’s competition and would encourage those who did not make the current shortlist to consider next year’s competition.”

Today’s shortlist comes from BIM’s first trawl for Ireland’s Best Young Fishmonger. 

A new initiative from the seafood agency, this competition is open to anyone employed full-time in fish retail shops or on supermarket seafood counters.

Applicants must be aged under 35, have an excellent knowledge of seafood products and have acquired relevant technical skills. Applicants must work a minimum of a 30 hour week on the seafood counter. 

BIM are offering a range of competition prizes. All finalists will receive a trophy and a business development package. The overall winner will be offered a study trip to France, a placement in a top seafood restaurant kitchen and sponsorship of a place on BIM’s retail development workshops.

The overall winner will be announced at a presentation lunch in Dublin on 25 November next.
