Rubisko – Harnessing the power of data to transform aquaculture operations

Rubisko is empowering emerging aquaculture and agriculture industries to make better decisions through data.

Its production and data management software transforms how farms record, analyse, and act on their information – turning everyday operations into measurable insights that drive growth, efficiency, and sustainability.
Founded by Will Varcoe, the London-based company is focused on creating digital infrastructure for fast-evolving sectors such as seaweed cultivation, vertical farming, and insect production. By combining deep industry knowledge with a clear understanding of on-the-ground challenges, the company helps producers move away from fragmented spreadsheets and manual data collection toward integrated, transparent, and intelligent management systems.

Rubisko is one of eight up-and-coming companies taking part in the BIM Innovation Studio, delivered in partnership with Hatch Blue. The intensive six-day programme provides participating companies with expert mentoring, investor readiness training, and access to Ireland’s growing aquatech ecosystem.

Rubisko’s Seaweed platform, developed in collaboration with European seaweed hatcheries and farms, standardises data management across the seaweed value chain – from hatchery to harvest. The platform not only supports day-to-day operations but also unlocks the potential of aggregated industry data, paving the way for traceability, benchmarking, and machine learning insights that can elevate the entire sector.

Through ongoing projects and partnerships, Rubisko is demonstrating how digital tools can reduce inefficiencies, improve resource planning, and accelerate innovation in sustainable food production. The company’s approach is built on collaboration – working closely with producers to ensure that technology genuinely supports their work, rather than complicates it.

Will Varcoe, founder and CEO of Rubisko, said:
“Many producers in emerging food industries are still managing operations on spreadsheets or paper, making it difficult to see the bigger picture. We want to show that data doesn’t need to be complicated – when structured properly, it becomes one of the most powerful assets a farm has. Our goal is to make digital management not just accessible, but genuinely valuable.”

“The BIM Innovation Studio is a great opportunity to refine our product direction with industry experts and like-minded innovators. We’re particularly interested in connecting with potential partners in the aquaculture space who share our belief that better data management is the foundation for scaling sustainable production.
“The programme offers a chance to strengthen our approach, expand our network, and identify pathways for collaboration and growth.

“Ireland’s progressive approach to aquaculture and innovation makes it an ideal place for Rubisko. The country’s strong research ecosystem, forward-thinking producers, and openness to collaboration create the perfect environment to develop and scale our digital tools for sustainable food production.

“In five years, we see RUBISKO established as a trusted data partner across global emerging agriculture sectors, providing connected software that helps producers collect, understand, and act on their data to drive efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.”
