This six-week programme covers General Engineering Science One and General Engineering Science Two, which are the academic examination requirements of the Department of Transport for Second Engineers on Irish registered Fishing Vessels with registered power over 3000 kw and Chief Engineers on vessels less than 3000kW.

Who is the Programme for

Fishing Vessel Engineers who are holders of a Class 3 Certificate of Competency, have completed the Fishing Vessel Engineering Skills programme or have been accepted by the DOT for direct entry to the Class 2 Fishing Vessel Engineer course.

Duration

This programme will be delivered over 6 weeks in the National Fisheries College of Ireland, Greencastle, Co. Donegal.

Training Methodology

Classroom based instruction.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive GES 1&2 certificate issued by BIM on behalf of the Department of Transport.

Entry Requirements

Fishing Vessel Engineers who are holders of a Class 3 Certificate of Competency, have completed the Fishing Vessel Engineering Skills programme or have been accepted by the DOT for direct entry to the Class 2 Fishing Vessel Engineer course.

Progression

The qualification is a requirement for Second Engineers on board fishing vessels with a registered power of over 3000 kW, or Chief Engineers on board fishing vessels with a registered power of less than 3000kW.

Assessment

Assessment will be carried out by Written Examination.
