BIM Teams Up with RNLI to Highlight Lifesaving Strategies for Fishers at Sea

RNLI / BIM Man Overboard Experience 2022

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) welcome fishers to attend a FREE one-day Man Overboard Experience at the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. These sessions are designed to highlight the importance of wearing a personal floatation device (PFD) and provides the opportunity to practice Man Overboard recovery scenarios in the facilities environmental pool.

The day comprises classroom-based learning in the morning followed by a pool-based session in the afternoon. It is a challenging daylong session which tests the fishers’ abilities in a controlled environment while replicating some of the harsh conditions experienced at sea.

This joint initiative is delivered by Frankie Horne, RNLI’s Commercial Fishing Safety Manager, and is raising awareness and changing attitudes and behaviours towards wearing lifejackets (also known as PFDs) at sea. Come and join us for the day and learn how to keep yourself and your crew safe.

Please note the training has been temporarily postponed due to a structural issue at the Maritime College of Ireland pool. The new dates will be shared shortly.
