Programme Overview Programme Overview

This course aims to provide training for candidates in STCW Updated Training in Advanced Fire Fighting.

Seafarers designated to control fire-fighting operations on board a vessel shall complete updated advanced training in techniques for fighting fire, with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command.

Seafarers are required to demonstrate competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in table A-VI/3 of the STCW code.

Duration

Training Methodology

Classroom theory in fire awareness, firefighting, the control of firefighting teams, co-ordination of search and firefighting teams in practical exercises using breathing apparatus (BA)

Certification

On successful completion of the course the student is awarded a STCW Updated Training in Advanced Firefighting Certificate in accordance with Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code. The certificate is issued by BIM on behalf of the Department of Transport.

Entry Requirements

  • Must hold the STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting (5 day)
  • Photographic Identification must be provided prior to commencement of the course, e.g. Drivers licence or Passport.
  • Either a doctor’s certificate that states they are fit to undertake the course or a valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate ENG11.

Assessment

The student will complete a written exam.
