35 directed hours (5 days full-time).

Training Methodology

Classroom based, and practical instruction on a suitable vessel.

Certification

Department of Transport Passenger Boat Certificate of Proficiency – Category A Commercial Endorsement.

Entry Requirements

  • All persons must have the following in all cases for entry to this programme:
  • 12 months qualifying sea service
  • Valid Personal Survival Techniques (PST) Certificate
  • Valid Elementary First-Aid (EFA) Certificate
  • Valid ENG II Seafarer Medical Certificate
  • Must be over 18 years of age

Employment Opportunities

On successful completion of the programme, and having the ancillary courses required, a learner is certified to be a skipper of a small passenger boat .

Ancillary courses required are as follows;

  • STCW-PST  Personal Survival Techniques.
  • STCW-EFA  Elementary First-Aid and Class 2 Certificate of Competency Engineer Officer)

Assessment

Written and practical examinations.
