National Seafood Survey – Fisheries

BIM conducts an annual survey in which all active vessels are requested to submit economic, employment  and operational details for their previous year’s activity.

National Seafood Survey – Fisheries (NSS) National Seafood Survey – Fisheries (NSS)

The National Seafood Survey, collecting data for 2021 operations, has now been launched and will remain open until January 2023.

Completing the survey is a condition of grant aid payment and is a legal requirement (S.I. No 132 of 2010).

What is the purpose of the survey?

The survey asks a series of questions about the financial and operational performance of fishing vessels and the demographics of the crew. The findings of the survey provide key data and insights into the status of Ireland’s fishing sector on an annual basis. The returns form the basis for the justification of national and EU grant aid programmes, focused on supporting the industry and coastal communities.

How do I register?

The online survey platform aims to make the process of providing data more efficient and secure.

Once your account has been confirmed by BIM, you will receive and email with a link to access the survey.

Please note that this can take up to 24 hours on weekdays and 72 hours if you register over the weekend.

How do I complete the survey?

The process is slightly different for over 10 metres vessels. The vessel owner completes the first section (i.e., vessel and crew questions), and their accountant completes the second section (i.e., income, expenditure, assets etc.)
