Seafood processors invited to learn about energy efficient refrigeration systems at latest instalment of BIM Green Programme sustainability series.

A webinar for Irish seafood processors on energy efficient management of refrigeration systems is being held as part of the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland’s Seafood Development Agency 2021 Green Programme Sustainability Series.  The hour-long event offering practical advice and guidance on best practice for optimising energy use in refrigeration systems, will take place on Wednesday 30th June at 13.00.

BIM recently developed a Refrigeration Systems Management Guide for Seafood Processors, due for publication in advance of the webinar.  Expert speakers from BIM and Clean Technology Centre, Cork will share key insights from the guide during the webinar.  Awareness of climate impacts and the key steps seafood processors can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to help Ireland achieve its commitment to a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero emissions target by 2050 will also be discussed.

Speaking at the announcement of the webinar, Martina O’Brien, Green Programme Co-ordinator, BIM said, “Seafood Processors rely on refrigeration systems throughout their operations to maintain temperatures in cold stores, freezers, and blast freezers. These systems, while essential to most processor operations, are widely recognised as one of the highest energy users on site and a significant contributor to energy costs.  Simple steps can be taken to reduce energy usage by these systems.”

This event is one in a series of BIM Green Programme Sustainability Webinars running in 2021, addressing key sustainability areas of interest including management of water, energy, waste, and emissions.
