This course aims to provide training for candidates in STCW Advanced Fire Fighting.
Seafarers designated to control fire-fighting operations on board a vessel shall complete advanced training in techniques for fighting fire, with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command.
Seafarers are required to demonstrate competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in table A-VI/3 of the STCW code.
Learners will be working in the seafood industry or public service

Classroom theory in fire awareness, firefighting, the control of firefighting teams, co-ordination of search and firefighting teams in practical exercises using breathing apparatus (BA)
On successful completion of the course the student is awarded a Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Advanced Firefighting Certificate in accordance with Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code. The certificate is issued by BIM on behalf of the Department of Transport.
Fire Fighting drills which include
1. Students are exposed to heat and live fire scenarios using breathing
apparatus
2. Students climb up and down ladders and through crawl spaces
3. Students are exposed to confined spaces
All students will be asked to sign a health declaration on commencement of the course.
This course is an essential ancillary course for learners wishing to obtain a Skipper Limited Certificate of Competency (Fishing), a Skipper Full Certificate of Competency (Fishing) or a Class 1 Engineering (Fishing) Certificate of Competency.
Student assessment will be daily, based on participation in practical modules as required. The student will complete practical assessments and a written exam on the final day.
