Fleet Safety Scheme

This scheme is intended to further improve the overall safety standards onboard Irish Fishing Vessels. The Scheme provides grant aid of up to 40% for the purchase and installation of safety items including statutory lifesaving, fire-fighting, navigation and communication equipment.

Following a short period of maintenance to our grant system, we will be re-opening the Fleet Safety Scheme and Marine Tourism Safety Scheme to applications.

All applications received after this time will be subject to a project approvals board process. In addition, we will continue to work on updating the scheme over the coming weeks to ensure alignment with our new EMFAF fisheries grant schemes.

Who is Eligible

Owners of Registered Irish fishing vessels of all sizes may apply for the Fleet Safety Scheme grant.

What is Funded

Both the purchase and installation of safety equipment may be funded by the scheme. The full list of items covered are listed here; these include things such as:

• Life rafts
• Life jackets
• Distress flares
• First aid kits
• Bilge pumps
• Safety manuals

Amounts Granted

• No minimum level of expenditure applies to this scheme however a maximum level applies in respect of each individual item
• The cumulative maximum ‘de minimis’ grant aid from any ‘de minimis’ source in a three-year period up to the date of grant approval is €30,000
