Seafood R&D Programme

This programme supports research and development projects aimed at developing new or improved products and processes for the sector which are market led and in collaboration with industry, agencies and recognised Research Performing Organisations (RPO’s)

The Seafood R&D Programme is established under Union Priority 1 (Sustainable Development of Fisheries) of Ireland’s Operational Programme under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014 – 2020, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Commission.

About About

The Seafood R&D Programme provides a means for industry to submit relevant R&D project proposals to be undertaken by BIM for the benefit of the sector as a whole.

Approved projects will be administered by BIM on behalf of industry and carried out by Research Performing Organisations (RPOs).

The key objectives of this programme are:

Who is Eligible Who is Eligible

Seafood businesses and public bodies are invited to submit project proposals. Priority will be given to projects that take account of the raw material supply, describe the technical requirements and define the market opportunity.  Projects must demonstrate the common benefit of the sector.

Project submissions must build-upon Food Wise 2025, EMFF, Seafood Processing Development Measure 2014-2020 and BIM strategy goals and priorities. All projects must be for the benefit of the Irish seafood sector and outputs made accessible via online publications and industry information fact sheets.

BIM reserves the right to not approve projects which do not comply with BIM strategy, EMFF legislation or where insufficient funds are available.

For approved projects, third party Research Performing Organisation (RPO) costs will be 100% funded up to a maximum of €150,000 per project.

BIM envisage that projects will have clear outcomes and as a guideline would be completed within a 12 month period. High Technology Readiness (TRL 5+) are envisaged rather than early-stage explorative R&D.
