New food labelling rules will come into effect in December 2014
Regulation 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers will apply to all foods. In addition seafood businesses must ensure that they comply with the consumer information requirements outlined in Articles 35-39 of Regulation 1379/2013 on the Common Organisation of the market in Fishery and Aquaculture products.
Foods placed on the market or labelled prior to 13th December 2014 which are compliant with the existing rules may be marketed until the stocks of the foods are used.
The labels on product produced on and after the 14th December 2014 must comply with the new requirements.
