BIM attended the Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo in Tokyo this month, supported by Bord Bia, to explore value-added development opportunities for the pelagic sector.

The visit focused on strengthening market insight, building customer relationships, and identifying opportunities to support the development of higher-value products from Irish pelagic processors. Irish industry representatives included Gallagher Brothers, Valentia Smokehouse, Premier Fish, and Killybegs Seafoods.

In addition to exhibiting at the Expo, the delegation was hosted by a Japanese processor in Choshi, who provided a tour of their facilities and shared valuable business insights.

The visit delivered meaningful outcomes, including engagement with potential new markets, international networking, and exposure to innovative practices.

The event is supported by the Government of Ireland and the EU under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.
