New Fishermen Scheme

This scheme assists new entrants into the fishing industry in acquiring ownership of your first whitefish fishing vessel.

The New Fisherman Scheme is established under Union Priority 1 (Sustainable Fisheries) of Ireland’s Operational Programme under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014 – 2020, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Commission.

Acquiring ownership, in full or in part, of your first fishing vessel.

Note: Only vessels registered and purchased from within the EU are eligible for grant aid. Vessels imported from any third countries (and UK after 31st Dec 2020) are not eligible for grant aid under the scheme.

The vessel must belong to the polyvalent and be:

25% of the eligible acquisition costs of the vessel directly incurred by the applicant (or an amount not exceeding 75,000 euro, whichever is the lower).
