BIM, Irish Water Safety and RNLI Drive Lifejacket Safety Awareness Campaign

- 7 Fishermen have lost their lives at sea in 2011 to date

- 44 fishermen have lost their lives at sea over the last 10 years

BIM are continuing to promote the importance of safety to industry and to encourage more fishermen to wear their lifejackets at sea with a targeted media campaign.

Noel O’Sullivan, a fisherman for 22 years and a survivor of an accident at sea is acting ambassador for the campaign to appeal directly to his fellow fishermen around the coast.

Hear Noel’s story on how he survived a terrifying accident at sea 110 miles South of Mizen Head

In tandem BIM’s safety team of regional officers will work with fishermen on the ground to advise on the correct use of lifejackets
