Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency is to partner with Nofima, the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fishery and Aquaculture to drive Innovation in the Irish Seafood Sector. In the first step towards developing a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies; BIM recently welcomed the applied research agency to Ireland. Nofima’s valuable insight and expertise in Innovation, Technology Transfer and Sustainability will be of significant benefit to BIM and the Irish Seafood Sector as we work towards adding value to our seafood to achieve the Food Wise 2025 target of reducing the level of seafood sold in commodity form from 70% to below 50%.
BIM organised a full itinerary for the Nofima delegation including a visit to Teagasc Food Research Centre in Moorepark, Co. Cork to discuss the development of a Seafood Research and Development programme and to BIM’s Seafood Development Centre in Clonakilty, West Cork where the group were given an insight into the process and expertise available in the centre assisting seafood companies to go from concept development to scale to final commercialisation all underpinned by market insight, NPD and technology transfer services.
BIM are planning a reciprocal visit to Nofima in Norway in September.
