This position requires the appointee to be capable of delivering courses in accordance with S.I. 289/1988 Fishing Vessels (Certification of Deck and Engineer Officer) regulations 1988, courses on GMDSS radio as required by Merchant Shipping (Fishing Vessel) regulations S.I. 544 of 1988 and Safety of Fishing Vessels Regulations S.I. 640 of 2007, courses on training for fishing vessel personnel diversifying into marine tourism under the Merchant Shipping (Passenger Boat) Manning regulations S.I. 649 of 2005 and courses on mandatory Basic Safety training and Enhanced Safety Training in accordance with the Basic Safety Training (Fishing Vessels) Regulations, S.I. 587 of 2001.
The Senior Nautical Skills Instructor will be required to prepare and deliver subjects for DTT&S Certificates of Competency (Fishing Vessels) – Skipper Full, Second Hand Full and Second Hand Limited, Maritime Radio courses in Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) training, Electronic Navigation Systems (Fishing), Navigation Command and Control (Fishing), Fishing Vessel Operations, Navigation and Safety Skills subjects for examination for QQI Award (Major) Level 5 in Commercial Fishing and to assist in the delivery of Safety Training to meet DTT&S requirements.
Applicants should hold a Class 1 Unlimited (Merchant Marine) Certificate of Competency, and a valid driving licence.
Relevant experience as an instructor, a sound knowledge of education and training policy, a high degree of computer literacy, a self-motivated and flexible approach to training delivery and interest in all aspects of seafood training would be distinct advantages.
